Jude, Vivi, and Taryn finding a way to get Taryn off the hook with Locke’s murder now that was engaging. When Taryn shows up and announces she’s pregnant, I didn’t find myself all that shocked. This book starts with Jude still in exile, and working as a mercenary? I never quite understood this, as a mortal, how was she ever able to compete with the magical realm in terms of fighting ability? I know she trained, but I always had this image in my head that she wasn’t all that skilled, and certainly didn’t have the lithe build, and lean muscle to match the power of a fae? I’m not even sure I should be giving it 3 stars, maybe 2.5… I guess it depends what kind of day I’m having. I was worried for this book, and as it turns out, rightly so.

I actually really enjoyed The Wicked King, and despite not really loving the characters, I liked The Cruel Prince too. I really had it in my head that this series would be a duology, so I was… surprised… when this book was announced.

When a dark curse is unveiled, Jude must become the first mortal Queen of Faerie and uncover how to break the curse, or risk upsetting the balance of the whole Faerie world. When her twin sister Taryn shows up asking of a favour, Jude jumps at the chance to return to the Faerie world, even if it means facing Cardan, who she loves despite his betrayal. She spends her time with Vivi and Oak, watches her fair share of reality television, and does the odd job or two, including trying to convince a cannibalistic faerie from hunting her own in the mortal world. 🙂Īfter being pronounced Queen of Faerie and then abruptly exiled by the Wicked King Cardan, Jude finds herself unmoored, the queen of nothing. I wasn’t the biggest fan of this book which was a shame as I really enjoyed the first two in the series, so if you did love it, maybe turn away now… You have been warned.
